International Journal of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork

The International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (IJTMB) is a peer-reviewed journal focusing on the research (methodological, physiological, and clinical) and professional development of therapeutic massage and bodywork and its providers, encompassing all allied health providers whose services include manually applied therapeutic massage and bodywork. The Journal provides a professional forum for editorial input; scientifically-based articles of a research, educational, and practice-oriented nature; readers’ commentaries on journal content and related professional matters; and pertinent news and announcements.

IJTMB is Multimed Inc.’s longest-running publication on the OJS platform, and the following timeline documents the continuing success of an enjoyable 15-year relationship

Dr. Amanda Baskwill, Executive Editor of IJTMB shares her vision and the changes she would like to see for the research and work published in the Journal in the future:

The International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork is 15 years old!  From the beginning, IJTMB has “[strived] to provide the massage/bodywork profession and related health science communities with a peer-reviewed scientific forum that is open access for its readership and contributing authors” (Hymel, 2008). The journal is a forum that empowers massage therapy (MT) researchers, practitioners, and educators to publish their research and innovations. We are proud of the contribution we have made to the professionalization trajectory of MT and even more proud of the authors who have shared their work.

As we look to the future, the IJTMB seeks to broaden our reach by diversifying the types of scholarly work we publish. To date, we have primarily received research articles and case studies. We have noted that there are opportunities for MT practitioners and educators to share their practices (Kennedy, 2021). The global COVID-19 pandemic created many innovations that have yet to be shared and built upon.We look forward to continuing to publish high-quality scholarly work in the field of therapeutic massage and bodywork.  Thank you to our authors, reviewers, and readers. If you haven’t yet, I encourage you to have a read of our current issue – https://ijtmb.org/index.php/ijtmb/issue/current.
